Park Hills, Mo. (KFMO) - Residents in St. Francois, Iron, Madison, Washington, and parts of Jefferson and Ste. Genevieve counties should be aware of an elevated fire danger this afternoon due to dry conditions, low humidity, and gusty winds.
Weather conditions include minimum relative humidity around 37% and maximum wind gusts reaching 29 mph. These factors make fires more difficult to control and increase the risk of rapid fire spread if one starts.
Officials urge residents to consider postponing any outdoor burning. If a fire is necessary, ensure it is fully extinguished, regardless of size.
Fire Safety Tips:
- Properly discard cigarettes—never toss them from a moving vehicle.
- Avoid parking on dry grass and check trailers for dragging chains that could spark a fire.
- Refrain from activities that involve open flames or sparks.
Stay alert to changing conditions and take precautions to prevent fires from starting.
