Ste. Genevieve, Mo. (KFMO) – The West County Lady Bulldogs take the lead in the MAAA Conference Softball standings after a 2-1 victory Wednesday.
Grace Barton was on point in the circle for the Lady Bulldogs. She struck out seven batters and allowed one run on five hits. Barton was 2-for-4 at the plate with a single in the fifth resulting in the go-ahead run scoring. That run being Lacy LaMarr who doubled five pitches prior.
Both Barton and Ste. Gen pitcher Ava Greer were nearly untouchable through the majority of the game. Greer struck out 13 batters and allowed two runs on seven hits.
The scoring began in the fourth inning when Grace Lynch reached first on a wild pitch after striking out. She scored with two outs in the inning as Kaytlen Hartley doubled to centerfield.
Ste. Genevieve answered in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI single by Olyvia Beckerman that drove in Braina Pfaff who led off the inning with a double.
West County (7-1, 5-0) plays Kingston on Thursday, while Ste. Genevieve (5-5, 4-1) battles Meadow Heights Thursday.
