Columbia, Mo. (KFMO) – The Potosi Trojans wrapped up the season as the fourth place finishers in Class 4 after a weekend of tough matchups in the MSHSAA Class 4 Show-Me Showdown at MIZZOU Arena.
The Trojans met Class 4 No. 1 ranked Vashon Friday afternoon in the semifinal. The Wolverines dominated the first quarter that included an 18-0 run. They led after one quarter 35-12. Trey Williams Jr. paced Vashon with 19 points in the 90-30 win.
Carter Whitley and Kanaan Wilson led Potosi in scoring. Whitley had 15 points and six rebounds, while Wilson finished the game with nine points.
Vashon would go on to win the Class 4 title a day later.
On Saturday, Potosi started off hot against Logan-Rogersville in the third place game. The Trojans jumped to a 7-0 lead before a Wildcat timeout halted the rally. After the timeout, Logan-Rogersville rebounded with a 13-0 run of their own and never trailed. The Wildcats got the win, 54-36.
In his final game as a Trojan, Whitley contributed a team high 13 points and seven rebounds. Peyton Rowe added seven points, and Ayden Rickets had six points.
Potosi struggled from the field at MIZZOU Arena shooting a combined 18-for-74 in the Final Four.
Despite the 0-2 effort in Columbia, the season was still a remarkable one. All six losses came against teams ranked in the top-10 in Class 4 or 5. This Trojans team became the first in program history to reach the Final Four.
