(Park Hills, MO) Mineral Area College on Friday night welcomed to Bob Sechrest Fieldhouse the Jefferson Lady Vikings. Jefferson had played the Lady Cardinals tough in the past, and it was deja vu again for both teams Friday night.
It was Mineral Area College who had to endure four match points in the fourth set, but overcame all four, winning in extra points in the fourth set, then in extra points again in the fifth set, winning three sets to two by scores of 14-25. 25-22, 25-21, 25-27, and 15-17. Jefferson fell to 7-22 with
the loss; their district play starts next week.
There was no rest for MAC the next day, as they turned around and hosted the one seed West Plains Grizzlies in the Region 16 Tournament Final. Despite the quick turnaround, the Lady Cardinals came out aggressive, winning the first two sets 25-14 and 25-22. But for West Plains,
who swept MAC in their last matchup, they proceeded to reverse sweep MAC in the next three sets, winning the match and the Region 16 Tournament. West Plains won the last three sets by scores of 25-16, 25-18, and 15-8. Bianca Salvador, who finished with a game high 21 kills, was
named Region 16 Tournament MVP.
The championship win for West Plains pushes their record to 32-5. Mineral Area College splits the pseudo doubleheader, with their record standing at 19-8. MAC, JeffCo, and West Plains all advance to the Midwest District Tournament hosted by Region 24.
