(Hillsboro, MO) The Hillsboro Hawks celebrated their homecoming in a rain filled affair against the North County Raiders Friday night. After Hillsboro turned aside North County on fourth down on the game’s opening drive, rain forced the game to a standstill.
Over an hour later, play resumed and Hillsboro took to work marching down the field, ending with an 11 yard touchdown pass from senior quarterback Preston Brown to Braxton Chazelle.
North County would answer soon after, as Aaron Cook punched a ticket from five yards out, then after recovering a squib kick, took the lead on a six yard run from quarterback Braydee McClure.
Hillsboro trailed at the half, 14-7, and started the second half with possession. They proceeded to score touchdowns on their next three drives. The first two were by Preston Brown, who finished with three on the evening, and the other came from Chris Duncan after catching a 56 yard reception for his only catch of the day.
Hillsboro would outscore North County 28-0 in the second half, defeating the Raiders 35-14 to improve their record to 2-2 heading into a rivalry game next week at home against Festus. North County falls to 2-2. They face Rolla on the road next week.
