Cape Girardeau, Mo. (KFMO) - In a battle of two MAAA teams, it was the Farmington Knights who came out on top in a Class 3, District 1 semi-final, knocking off the North County Lady Raiders 4-2.
After a scoreless 1st inning, the Knights led off the 2nd with an Emilee Gillam home run to take a 1-0 lead. North County equalized in the top of the 3rd on an RBI double by Madison Carroll. That tie didn't last long, as Farmington retook the lead the very next half inning after a wild pitch brought Olivia Hartupee home from third base. In the 4th inning, Farmington added the final two runs of the day on consecutive RBIs from Ricki Pyatt and Gracie Mann. The Lady Raiders got the tying run on base in the bottom of the 7th, but starting pitcher Elly Robbins struck out Bailey Wimmer to send the Knights onward to the championship.
Robbins took the win for Farmington, Emma Roper was the losing pitcher. Farmington advances to Monday's Class 3, District 1 championship, where they will play top-seeded Cape Notre Dame. The Bulldogs defeated 4-seed DeSoto 4-3 in extra innings on Saturday.
North County finishes its season at 13-13.
