Central Stuns Potosi With 2nd Half Comeback

Park Hills, Mo. (KFMO) - The Central Rebels have done it again, this time by coming back from a 12 point deficit to stun the Potosi Trojans, 34-26.

It was Homecoming for Central (5-1), and in front of a packed crowd, it seemed the Rebels had things figured out early. Going up against a stout Potosi (2-4) defense, the Rebels embarked on a 14-play, 7 minute drive to open up the scoring.

After then forcing a Potosi three-and-out, Central began to drive again, only to see all of their progress wiped by an interception by Potosi's Thomas Lambing, who returned it to the Central 15-yard line. Clayton Richards broke through for a 15-yard touchdown on the first play of that drive, tying things up.

Tied at 14 late in the second, it seemed that Central would have a chacnce to take a lead into the break, but a penalty turned a 4th-and-goal from the 1 into a 4th-and-6 with a few seconds remaining. The Rebels lined up for a field goal which was blocked and returned 93-yards to give the Trojans a shocking 20-14 lead at the half.

Potosi scored first in the second half, a nice 26-yard pass from freshman quarterback David Miller to Blayne Maxwell to make it 26-14.

Despite a deflated and defeated crowd, the Rebels then embarked on a 20-point swing.

Quarterback Jaxon Jones first punched it in from 2 yards out to make it 26-20. After forcing Potosi to give the ball back, but with just a few minutes left, the Rebels used all but 11 seconds to take a 27-26 lead. Potosi had a chance for a Hail Mary, but Miller's check-down pass was intercepted and returned for a touchdown by Max Woods, putting the exclamation point on a 34-26 victory.

Central is 5-1, but take on fellow 5-1 squad Valle Catholic Friday. Potosi is 2-4, has lost 4 straight, and will try to correct course against Pacific.
