Cape Girardeau, Mo. (KFMO) - The top seeded Cape Notre Dame Bulldogs topped the two-seed Farmington Knights 3-1 in the Class 4, District 1 Championship Monday night in Cape Girardeau.
Scoring started in the bottom of the 1st inning. Kynna Johnson reached on an error and Ava Miller walked. They'd come around to score, making it 2-0. A lead off walk to Eloiza Marquez came back to bite the Knights in the bottom of the 2nd, making it 3-0 as she would score on a Miller groundout.
The Knights would get a run back in the 4th when Elly Robbins smacked one to dead center. Robbins finished the day 2-2 at the plate with a double in the 1st inning. Farmington stranded five runners on base, three of which were left in scoring position. The Knights had the tying run on base with Gracie Mann batting, but Bulldogs pitcher Taylor Kutz shut the door.
Robbins pitched six innings and struck out four batters while allowing three runs. Kynna johnson and Jacie Smith each had two hits. Cape Notre Dame will play Cor Jesu Saturday in the Class 4 Quarterfinal. Farmington's season ends with a record of 12-17 after starting the year 2-10.
