The Offsets Recreational Area Remains Closed

(Madison County, MO.) The popular Madison County recreational area, known as the Offsets, will remain closed after the Missouri Court of Appeals ruled in favor of a permanent injunction against the site. The Missouri Attorney General's Office filed suit against the Offsets proprietors Gary and Rebecca Henson. The swimming hole, that was a lead mine many years ago, has seen at least 9 deaths since it was officially opened in the 1980's. The permanent injunction was originally granted in May of 2019 and was to shut down the facility until certain safety measures were instituted including requiring an emergency response plan be prepared, having those who jump from the bluff wear an approved life vest, and keep an extra lifeguard stationed in a boat in the water among others. A facebook post on The Offsets page is asking patrons, who wish to see the injunction lifted, to contact the Missouri Attorney General's Office or the Governor's office.
