(Jefferson County, MO) A home in the 10,000 block of Waterford Drive, in Jefferson County's Raintree Subdivision, is a total loss after a fire destroyed the structure Sunday. According to reports from the department the call came in at 5:56 pm. When crews arrived they found a two story residential structure with heavy fire throughout the attic. Crews quickly began an aggressive interior attack on the fire and began protecting the neighboring structures to prevent multiple houses from catching on fire. A search of the structure was performed and no victims were found, however one cat did perish in the fire. The homeowner was not in town at the time of the blaze. Crews quickly brought the alarm under control and fire fighters were released by 8:30. Hillsboro Fire remained on the scene until the house was secured by a board up company. One fire fighter was treated on the scene for dehydration. There were no other injuries to report. Another house sustained minor roof damage from embers falling on the structure. The Hillsboro Fire Protection District was assisted by the Cedar Hill Fire Protection District, the Mapaville Fire Protection District, the DeSoto Rural Fire Protection District, DeSoto City Fire Department, the High Ridge Fire Protection District and Valle Ambulance District. It's believed to be accidental in nature and possibly caused by discarded smoking material.
