Hunt in Custody Following Search in Missing Person Case

Washington Co., Mo. (KFMO) -The Sullivan Police Department has confirmed the arrest of 34-year-old Cody Lee Hunt Wednesday morning at a residence in Washington County. Hunt was taken into custody by Washington County deputies and has since been transferred to the Sullivan Police Department. His arrest follows an intense search after the disappearance of 63-year-old Dale Ryerson of Sullivan.

The situation escalated Tuesday night when Washington County deputies responded to a report of a brush fire around 7:30 p.m. in a wooded area south of Potosi. Upon arrival, they discovered a burned Jeep Cherokee, later identified as Ryerson's vehicle. Tragically, human remains were found inside the vehicle, but authorities have not yet confirmed the identity of the remains.

Ryerson was last seen early Tuesday morning in the 300 block of Jones Street in Sullivan, and authorities believe he may have been abducted and injured by Hunt. A public alert was issued, warning that the two might be traveling in Ryerson's gray 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Hunt, who was considered armed and dangerous, is now in custody. Law enforcement continues to investigate the case, and further updates are expected as more details emerge. Authorities urge the public to contact the Sullivan Police Department at 573-468-8001 with any information.
