St. Louis Co., Mo. (KFMO) - A tragic crash on northbound Interstate 55 near the 196-mile marker in St. Louis County on Tuesday morning resulted in two fatalities and moderate to serious injuries to two other individuals. The incident occurred at approximately 10:30 a.m. and involved a 2015 Dodge Challenger and a 2023 Buick Envision SUV.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report, the collision occurred when the Dodge Challenger, driven by a 24-year-old St. Louis man, failed to stop in time and rear-ended the Buick Envision, which had slowed for traffic. The impact caused the Buick to veer off the roadway and strike a concrete barrier.
The driver of the Buick, a 58-year-old from Park Hills, sustained serious injuries and was transported to Mercy Creve Coeur Hospital by EMS. Tragically, two female passengers in the Buick did not survive the crash. A 71-year-old woman from Park Hills was pronounced deceased at Mercy Hospital South at 11:17 a.m., and a 90-year-old woman from Desloge succumbed to her injuries later that evening at 9:48 p.m.
The driver of the Dodge Challenger suffered moderate injuries and was taken to Mercy South Hospital. Both vehicles sustained extensive damage and were towed from the scene.
