Details Emerge from Double-Homicide Investigation

Festus, Mo. (KFMO) - Authorities with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office are investigating a double-homicide involving two children, under the age of 10.

According to Jefferson County Sheriff Dave Marshak, the suspect, a 36-year-old female, came to the Festus Police Department, at around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, to inform officers that she had shot and killed one of her children and drowned the other. She was immediately taken into custody.

Festus Police immediately went to the parking lot to find a 9-year-old female deceased from a gunshot wound, in the suspects car. Police attempted life saving measures, however were unsuccessful.

Sheriff's Deputies responded to Timber Creek Resort, in unicorporated Festus, and found a 2-year-old male in a fountain, near the entrance. A Deputy swam to the child, brought the child to shore, and attempted life-saving measures, but that child was also pronounced deceased.

Sheriff Marshak said evidence has been located in St. Francois County, tying to the investigation.

Sheriff Marshak said that the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attourney has been notified and will be working through Tuesday evening building charges for the case, as well as investigators. The identities of the victims and suspect have not been released. The investigation is ongoing.
