(Columbia, MO) University of Missouri junior wide receiver Luther Burden III has been named to the Associated Press 2024 Preseason All-American first team, the publication announced Monday.
Burden returns for his third season as Mizzou's starting wide receiver and is coming off a sophomore campaign in which he finished as a semifinalist for the prestigious Biletnikoff Award. Just a year ago, Burden led the Tigers in receptions (86), receiving yards (1,212) and touchdown receptions (nine). The 2023 First-Team All-SEC choice finished the season second in the SEC and ninth in the nation in receiving yards and third in the conference in receptions. His 1,212 receiving yards rank third on the program's single-season chart, while his 83 receptions rank fourth in program lore.
Burden, just the eighth 1,000-yard receiver in Mizzou history, posted five consecutive 100-yard receiving performances (Sept. 9-Oct. 7) to become the second Tiger to accomplish the feat and first since 2009. In addition, the St. Louis native registered a career-high 177 receiving yards on 10 receptions in the neutral-site matchup against Memphis.
Mizzou's 2024 season opener is slated for Thursday, August 29 when it welcomes Murray State to Faurot Field at Memorial Stadium for an 7 p.m. kickoff.
