(St. Francois County, MO) A local man is in custody after an armed standoff came to a successful conclusion without further incident, and no injuries, according to St. Francois County Sheriff's Department Chief Deputy, Greg Armstrong. A press release from Armstrong indicates deputies were sent to a residence in the 2500 block of Route OO, south of Farmington, to serve a 96 hour commitment on an individual in need of mental health services. When approached the man fired several shots from his residence refusing to communicate with officers. Missouri State Highway Patrol negotiators responded along with the Patrol's SWAT team to attempt to bring the standoff to an end. The situation was over at about 7:30 when the man, who was the only person in the residence, surrendered. He resident was transported to a local hospital for evaluation. St. Francois County Sheriff's department officials wish to thank the Missouri State Highway Patrol, and members of their SWAT Team, for their quick response.
