St. Louis Woman's Probation Revoked, Sentenced to Six Years in Prison

Jefferson Co., Mo. (KFMO) - A Jefferson County judge revoked the probation of a St. Louis woman and sentenced her to six years in prison on November 5, court documents reveal. 31-year-old Haley Nicole Smith was originally sentenced to five years probation after pleading guilty to possession of a controlled substance in December 2023.

Judge Joseph Rathert of Jefferson County’s Division 1 Circuit Court ordered Smith’s prison term following a probation violation case handled by Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Lindsay Whalen.

Smith’s legal troubles date back to April 2022, when a Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office deputy stopped a vehicle she was a passenger in on Highway M near Old Lemay Ferry Road in Barnhart. The vehicle, a 2011 Mazda CX-7, had been reported stolen in Ozark. During a search, authorities found methamphetamine in Smith’s purse, which she admitted was hers, though she claimed no knowledge of the SUV being stolen.

Her most recent arrest occurred in February 2024 when deputies stopped another vehicle she was riding in on Old Highway 21. According to the probable-cause statement, Smith attempted to flee and hid in a nearby culvert but was soon apprehended. Deputies later recovered a discarded bag containing methamphetamine near the scene.

Smith now faces an additional misdemeanor charge for resisting arrest.
