Festus, Mo. (KFMO) - Motorists in Festus heading south towards Farmington will now travel through the northwest roundabout at the U.S. Route 67/Interstate 55 Interchange.
The roundabout opened late Monday. MoDOT Project Manager, Justin Wolf, describes how the roundabout currently works.
This is part of a project that began in January, to address traffic and safety concerns along the I-55 corridor and account for future development and growth patterns in the region. Interstate 55 is one of the heaviest traveled interstates in Missouri. Over 70,000 motorists travel the interstate daily. Over 15% of the daily traffic is heavy trucks. U.S. Route 67 has a daily traffic count of 30,000 vehicles. An additional lane will be added within the 8-mile section just north of the Route Z Interchange in Pevely (where the 3-lane section currently ends) to I-55/U.S. Route 67 in Festus.
The remaining portion of the roundabout will open in the next few months. The complete project is slated to be comepleted in December 2026.
