Red Flag Warning Issued for Parkland; Strong Winds Expected Wednesday

St. Francois County, Mo. (KFMO) - A Red Flag Warning is in effect today, March 18, from noon until 8 p.m. for St. Francois, Washington, Iron, and Madison Counties due to critical fire weather conditions.

The combination of gusty winds, low humidity, and dry vegetation will create an elevated wildfire risk, making any fires that develop difficult to control. Looking ahead to Wednesday, March 19, forecasters warn of strong winds across the Parkland, with gusts reaching 45-50 mph, and some areas potentially experiencing gusts up to 55 mph. Residents should secure loose outdoor objects and use caution while driving, especially on open roadways.

Authorities urge the public to avoid outdoor burning today and to prepare for hazardous wind conditions tomorrow. Stay tuned for further updates from the National Weather Service.
