(Jefferson County, MO) A man from Piedmont, 36 year old Clay Westmoreland, is being held in the Jefferson County Jail on charges of 1st degree tampering, leaving the scene of an accident, and unlawful possession of a weapon. Authorities say he is alleged to have been involved in a traffic accident in the 4200 block of Jeffco Boulevard Sunday. A press release from the Jefferson County Sheriff's office states Westmoreland rear ended a vehicle on US Highway 61-67 at Miller East. The collision caused the victim's vehicle to strike two other vehicles. Upon arrival police were advised Westmoreland had fled the scene of the wreck on foot. He was later seen walking along Richardson Road and was taken into custody by officers with the Arnold Police Department. Westmoreland was already on probation for tampering and assault in the 2nd degree. He's being held on a $50,000 cash only bond.
