Farmington Man Dies in Wreck

(Farmington, MO) A man from Farmington, 84 year old Keith J. Smith, is dead after he was involved in a traffic accident in St. Francois County Tuesday evening just before 6 o'clock. Troopers with the Highway Patrol say Smith was driving east on Hildebrecht Road and was approaching the intersection with Highway 67 as a pick up driven by 33 year old William E. Pigue II, of Hillsboro, was headed south on Highway 67 at the intersection. The Patrol report indicates Smith didn't stop but drove into the path of the pick up. The front of the truck crashed into the driver's side of Smith's car. Smith was pronounced dead on the scene while his passenger, 83 year old Virginia L. Smith, was seriously injured. She was taken to Mercy Hospital in St. Louis. Pigue was not injured.
