Explore Farmington’s History with a Downtown Cemetery Tour

Farmington, Mo. (KFMO) - Discover Farmington is hosting a Historic Cemetery Tour in Downtown Farmington Saturday, October 26, offering a unique glimpse into the area’s storied past. Kristen White, with Discover Farmington says the tour will start at the old St. Francois County Jail, now the Farmington History Museum.

Visitors will have the opportunity to explore the jail, learn about its history, and examine artifacts collected since the 1800s.

White says there will be carriage rides to take you through town.

The carriage will stop at the entrance of the Masonic Cemetery on Washington Street, where docents will bring Farmington’s past to life, portraying or narrating the lives of some of the area’s founding figures. Despite the moonlit setting, there’s no need to worry—your knowledgeable guide will ensure you don’t get lost.

Once the cemetery tour concludes, participants will board the next available carriage for the second leg of the downtown tour, returning to the old St. Francois County Jail. Tours will depart every 15 minutes starting at 4:30 p.m., with the final carriage boarding at 7:45 p.m. Each tour takes approximately one hour.

This event is free and open to the public, with tours offered on a first-come, first-served basis. No reservations will be taken, and children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. In the event of severe weather, presentations will be held at Long Memorial Hall.
