Elevated Fire Danger Today in Portions of the Parkland

St. Francois County, Mo. (KFMO) - Fire officials are warning residents in far northern St. Francois County, central and northern Washington County, portions of central and northern Ste. Genevieve County, and all of Jefferson County to exercise caution due to elevated fire danger today.

A combination of breezy conditions, low humidity, and dry vegetation is making it easier for fires to ignite and more difficult to control. Areas without snow cover are at the highest risk. Authorities advise residents who are not professional burners to postpone burning activities until conditions improve. If you must burn, ensure all fires are fully extinguished, regardless of their size.

Winds across the Parkland are expected to reach speeds of 10 to 15 m.p.h., with minimum relative humidity levels between 20 and 30 percent. These conditions contribute to an increased risk of fire spread. While low humidity is anticipated again on Tuesday, lighter winds should reduce the threat.

Residents are urged to remain vigilant and prioritize fire safety during these dry conditions.
