Community Invited to Farmington R-7’s ‘Safe Schools, Informed Families’ Event

Farmington, Mo. (KFMO) - The Farmington R-7 School District is inviting parents and community members to an important safety discussion on Tuesday, September 24, 2024. The event, titled Safe Schools, Informed Families: A Community Safety Conversation, will take place at the Black Knight Fieldhouse, with doors opening at 5:30 p.m.

This event aims to provide an in-depth look at the district’s safety measures and how they are designed to protect students and staff.

Superintendent Dr. Kyle Gibbs emphasizes that safety is the number one priority for the district.

He adds that the timing of this event is crucial, given the rise in school threats nationwide, including across the Parkland.

Topics of discussion will include:

  • Preventative measures in place to maximize safety
  • Emergency operations, focusing on threat identification, response protocols, and threat management
  • Procedures for reporting threats
  • How families can prepare and contribute to safety efforts

Attendees will have the opportunity to visit resource tables both before and after the presentation. Available resources will include assistance with Remind Messaging, social media safety tips for parents through Parent ProTech, emergency response guides, and information from local law enforcement, who will be present along with Frida, the district's therapy dog.

The district encourages all community members to attend this vital discussion to ensure the safety and well-being of Farmington schools.
