Authorities Identify Man Killed in Officer-Involved Shooting Near Hillsboro

Jefferson Co., Mo. (KFMO) - Authorities have identified the man who was fatally shot by Jefferson County deputies early Tuesday morning as 39-year-old Timothy L. Johnston of Cedar Hill.

Johnston was pronounced dead at an area hospital following an armed confrontation with law enforcement. According to Sheriff Dave Marshak, the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the official cause of death. Investigators believe six deputies fired at Johnston after he fired a handgun at them. Those deputies have been placed on standard administrative leave, which allows time for debriefing, interviews, investigation, and mental health support.

Officials say Johnston had no known connection to the residents or the home in the 8100 block of Old Highway 21, where the incident began.

Deputies were initially dispatched around 9:30 p.m. Monday after reports of a man banging on the home’s door. After hours of crisis negotiations, Johnston fired his weapon at officers, prompting them to return fire.

The investigation remains ongoing.
