Audit Uncovers Desloge Court Missing Funds

(Desloge, MO) Missouri State Auditor Scott Fitzpatrick has released the final results of the audit of Desloge Municipal Court.

The audit details how the former Court Administrator for the City of Desloge Municipal Court, Heather Steinmetz, is allegedly responsible for at least $3,886 in missing money, and may have used methods to conceal another $4,482 in potentially missing funds.

Fitzpatrick says he has turned the information over to prosecutors.

The audit makes it clear the money was allowed to go missing and not detected in a timely manner because the municipal division does not adequately segregate accounting and recordkeeping duties.

Furthermore, neither the Municipal Judge, nor other court personnel, perform supervisory or independent reviews of municipal division accounting and court records. This allowed Steinmetz to be solely responsible for collecting receipts, recording court receipts and case activity to the court system, preparing disbursements, and preparing monthly financial reports for court activities.

Stay tuned to KFMO B104 News for more information as it becomes available from prosecutors.
