Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday this Weekend

Jefferson City, Mo. (KFMO) - The Missouri Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday is this weekend.

By Missouri law, the three-day sales tax holiday weekend begins at 12:01 a.m. on the first Friday in August and ends at midnight on the Sunday following. Certain back-to-school purchases, such as clothing, school supplies, computers, and other items as defined by the statute, are exempt from sales tax for this time period only. The sales tax holiday applies to state and local sales taxes. In 2023, the Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday law changed, to make all state and local sales or use taxes, during the exemption period on qualifying items, exempt.

Prior to 2023 only state sales and use taxes were exempt.
